From May 22nd to May 27th, Nathalie Vandevelde, Eline Schroyens and Jonas de Schaut participated in the 2016 ICC Moot Court Competition in The Hague. This year’s edition of the competition gathered over 60 teams coming from the whole world. Confronted to a fictional case, the students had to impersonate the role of the Prosecutor of the ICC as well as the representative of the victims and the counsel of an intervening State. They were notably asked to present submissions on the use and recruitment of juvenile pirates, the trans-border poisoning of a lake and the request for disqualification of an ICC judge. During the competition, Jonas, Eline and Nathalie brilliantly pleaded against teams from Australia, Brazil, China, Croatia, Finland, India, Ireland, Luxemburg, Singapore, South-Africa and Zambia. Thanks to their pleadings, and the three memorials they had written during the beginning of the year, they qualified for the quarter finals of the competition. In quarter finals, the team was confronted to stiff competition from a British and a Swiss team. For ULB the competition unfortunately stopped there. The sun, however, decided to shine at that very moment, allowing students (and their coach) to go visit the International Criminal Court itself and enjoy the beach at Scheveningen…
