Biographie

Mario Prost est professeur de droit international à l’ULB depuis le 1er octobre 2025. Il a précédemment enseigné le droit au Royaume-Uni, au Canada et en France, et est ancien membre du Comité directeur de la Société Européenne de Droit International (ESIL). Il est licencié en droit et titulaire d’un DEA en droit international et organisations internationales de l’Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, ainsi que d’un doctorat de l’Université McGill.

Activités de recherche

Spécialiste du droit international public, de la théorie du droit et des rapports entre droit et Anthropocène, Mario Prost développe une approche critique et interdisciplinaire mobilisant la philosophie, l’histoire, l’économie politique et l’écologie. Auteur de trois monographies et de nombreux articles parus dans des revues de premier plan, ses travaux ont été distingués par plusieurs prix nationaux et internationaux et cités par des institutions telles que la Commission du droit international, l’International Law Association, ou le Parlement Européen.

Ses recherches portent notamment sur les fondements historiques et politiques du droit international, l’interaction entre normes économiques et sociales, l’histoire du droit international de l’environnement et la généalogie extractiviste de la souveraineté. Il est par ailleurs impliqué dans de larges réseaux internationaux de recherche, ayant été affilié à des centres tels que le Manchester International Law Centre, le Critical Research Laboratory in Law and Society (Osgoode Hall, Toronto) ou le Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (McGill).

Activites d’enseignement

Mario Prost est titulaire du cours Public International Law du Master en droit (Mons) et co-titulaire du cours de Contentieux international et exercices de plaidoiries au sein du Master de Spécialisation en droit international. À partir de 2026, il sera titulaire du cours de Fondements de droit international de l’environnement au sein du Master interuniversitaire en droit de l’environnement et droit public de l’immobilier (ULB-UCL Saint-Louis).

Pratique du droit international

Avant de rejoindre le monde académique, Mario Prost a acquis une expérience pratique du droit international au sein de diverses institutions nationales et internationales. Il a été chercheur auprès de la Section des traités du Bureau des affaires juridiques des Nations Unies et du Secrétariat Général de la Défense Nationale (France). Il a par ailleurs exercé les fonctions de consul honoraire de France au Royaume-Uni (Manchester).
